Biosecurity Officer – Pest Animals

Are you looking to be involved in biosecurity and conservation in the Wellington region?
There is an opportunity to join the Biosecurity Pest Animals Team, based in Upper Hutt. The Pest Animals team coordinates and undertakes a wide range of pest animal management across the greater Wellington region. The role will have delegated responsibilities under Greater Wellington’s Regional Pest Management and Biodiversity Strategies; controlling ecological and agricultural pests at select sites.
We are looking for a team player who can demonstrate:
- A high level of physical fitness and be able to work in remote outdoor environments
- Experience in vertebrate and invertebrate pest animal management
- Experience in, and a passion for the outdoors and wildlife
- Excellent communication and reporting skills
- Good public relations skills and an ability to work with a wide range of individuals and organisations
- Sound knowledge of our native biodiversity
- Sound knowledge of farm management practices
- Ability to investigate, plan and carry out allocated technical tasks with minimal supervision
- Ability to ride quads and motorbikes off road.
You will preferably have proven experience in pest animal management and/or relevant tertiary qualification. You will need to be self-motivated and have a current full drivers licence and firearms licence.
