A number of central Government agencies and partnership organisations are responsible for regulatory or operational vertebrate pest control functions.

1 Ministry for Primary Industries
Protecting New Zealand's primary industries from biological risk, including from animal pests, is amongst MPI's responsibilities.
2 Department of Conservation
Is responsible for pest management in New Zealand's conservation estate, advises on pest management and is responsible for administering the Wildlife Act.
3 Ministry for the Environment
The Ministry has an overview role of New Zealand's biodiversity, including the impacts of pest animals on biodiversity.
4 OSPRI
OSPRI oversees the eradication of bovine TB from farm animals and vigilance to then keep the herds TB-free.
5 Parliamentary Commissioner for the Environment
Reports directly to Parliament and has powers to investigate environmental issues.
