Pests in our Dynamic Landscapes: the Pressure is On!

The vertebrate pest thread of the conference programme is likely to include the following components.

  1. Plenary session with keynote type presentations.
  2. Sub-themes
    Presentations around an overall theme of “What’s new in vertebrate pest control” as follows:
    • new toxins
    • alternative delivery systems and strategies
    • monitoring best practice and future thinking.
  3. Workshops
    Workshops on key issues in Vertebrate Pest Control (to be confirmed).
  4. Poster session
    Poster session on vertebrate pest research results.
  5. Sound bite sessions
    Short 2 to 5 minute and informal presentations on aspects of pest control not elsewhere included.
  6. Hands-on training opportunities
    Outdoor hands-on training opportunities are proposed to take place at, or close to, the conference venue.

    Training planned to date is in the following three categories and additional suggestions are welcomed:
    1. Monitoring:
      • Use of waxtags and bite mark interpretation.
      • Chew card use and interpretation
      • Correct setting of leghold traps
      • Recording escapes
      • Use of tracking cards
    2. New toxins - safe use and handling of PAPP & Zinc Phosphide toxins
    3. Using PDAs – Animal Health Board’s VectorTrax system
